Blackstone House

Last weekend it was Openhouse here in London, the most amazing architectural festival that gives free public access to lots of buildings in the capital and around the country. While most of the people generally hit for the iconic buildings in the city center, this year I opted to stay local and I discovered a beautiful gem just around the corner from my house:

Black Stone Building_ILBT

This new build is designed by 6aArchitects  and is nestled tightly into an irregular corner plot in North London and is split into three apartments.

The client – an artist and restaurateur – briefed the architects with a series of her own photographs depicting the stacking of everyday objects. The result is a minimal space, with a very strong character. The materials are rough ready, a perfect combination of wood, exposed concrete, brass and scratched white stucco.

The featured staircase is the fluid that connects the 3 apartments. The top floor apartment is the most beautiful one and has been decorated by the homeowner with an exquisite taste using a mix of old and new pieces.

Highlights from Milan Design Week 2017

Highlights from Milan Design Week 2017

This past design week in Italy it’s been sooo nice. I’ve never seen Milan that busy !!!! Since I spent just two days there I decided to concentrate on two areas: Brera (my overall favourite) and Tortona, I regret I didn’t visit the Ventura – Lambrate since I saw so many nice things on Instagram.

Anyway here’s my Top Ten:

1/ INTERNO ITALIANO

Hidden in a little corner of Brera I discover this brand inspired by the Italian way of living and created by Giulio Iacchetti. Internoitaliano objects “enjoy a special status: they are happy objects, the fruit of a 50/50 joint effort between the designer who designed them and the craftsman who lovingly made them,” I think you can really tell by the look of them !!

2/GIOVELAB

GIOVELAB is a small but sparkling ceramic studio based in Trentino. They are inspired by simplicity and produce an unconventional table collection made of porcelain, stoneware and wood from their local land. I was absolutely in love with those little spoons and the all ceramic collections (the packaging is also very cute! Perfect for a nice present). You can order from their online shop.

10 Best Cafes/Restaurants in Milan

Next week the Milan Design Week kicks off (also called il ‘Salone del Mobile’), I’ll be spending just a couple of days there and I can’t wait for it.

Milan is showing off the best of itself during the week and all the showrooms and art galleries open their doors to design events and installations.  In this city furniture is almost as important as food, so don’t forget to treat yourself to a nice meal. Here’s my top 10 list of cafes and restaurants around the city.

1/ 10 CORSO COMO

This cafe’ is hidden inside a traditional Mialense Courtyard, once you crossed the door from the busy/party Corso Como road you’ll find yourself transported into this amazing space: it’s a cafe, a fashion shop and also an art gallery and bookshop at the first floor. It’s definitely one of my favourite places in Milan, I have to say, I never try the food, but I had coffee and drinks few times and  I’ve never been disappointed!

The Perfect Armchair

The Perfect Armchair

Say welcome to our new Lounge Chair (I still have to give her a name)!!! If you remember my last post about the top 10 Best Lounge Chair I had a clear idea that a Mid-Century piece was the style to go for.

the perfect mid-century armchair

I had almost decided to buy the IKEA EKENÄSET Armchair, but my boyfriend made the point that if we wanted a vintage style chair we should perhaps trying and look in a Vintage shop for an actual vintage one (good point, well made….). That’s where our research started: we visited few vintage flea market (there are lots here in London) and some antique shops, but we couldn’t find what we wanted (or it was out of budget). Minimal Valentine’s Day Gifts

I’ve never been a fan of Valentine’s day: if you’re single it’s just a horrible day when the all world seems to remind you about it (I’ve been there so many times), but also as a couple I don’t think you need a special day to celebrate love….

That said, a part of me still loves and hopes to receive a little gift, something minimal that maybe makes you remember a special moment you spent together.
So here’s my minimal Valentine’s day Gift List:
